Back Road Farm & Forge is a family-run regenerative homestead and blacksmith shop in Brookland, Nova Scotia / Mi’kma’ki. Since 2009, we’ve grown food forests, gardens, open-pollinated seeds, and a passive-solar greenhouse while forging heirloom-quality ironwork using traditional techniques. Our work is grounded in land stewardship, seasonal living, quality craftsmanship, clean food, and community resilience. We also offer ecological consultations, sharing and teaching from our lived experience, including the successes and challenges along the way.

Spring is coming! Work your living soil gently with a Nova Scotia–made broadfork.

Magazine Feature

We're stoked to have been featured in the Farmhouse Do It Yourself Magazine back in spring 2023!

  • "I looked at this for many months before deciding to order one for my husband's 6th wedding anniversary gift. He adores it and says it's the most special present I have given him! If you are considering purchasing one, you should. The quality is exceptional and it is so unique. There is a reason people are raving about it. I love this bowl. Thank you!!!"

  • "Bought this as an 11 year anniversary present for my Aunt and Uncle. They loved it. Customer service was great. They were proactive and friendly all the way through the process."

  • "What an absolute stunning work of art the fireplace tools are! The love & care that went into crafting both the form & function of these tools radiates into the room. The heft and balance of each tool is perfectly calibrated, and the texture & colour of the forged iron is beautiful. The attention to the detail in the twisted handles smoothly disappearing into the shank is simply stunning. Thank you R&R for your timeless work of art."
